Manuela’s Wee Bakery

Off the beaten track, just moments away from Eilean Donan Castle, you would never know that a fairytale bakery existed, unless you had been told about it. Manuela’s Wee Bakery is tucked away on a back road and is a true hidden gem in the Highlands.

The small independent bakery is run by a German family who have brought their traditional family recipes and love for fairytales to Scotland. The Hansel and Gretel themed location includes witchy huts, with crooked roofs and bold colours which instantly make you feel like you are stepping into a mythical world overflowing with ‘forbidden’ treats!

I went for the blueberry vanilla ‘cookie’, which was seriously delicious and actually tasted more like a flattened muffin with crumbly bits on top! They bake a whole host of tempting specialities including croissants, artisan loaves and sweet and savoury buns. As well as the bakery, they also have an on-site gin distillery for which, if you have time, you can book a tour. Plus, there’s a coffee shop, pizza cabin and not forgetting their ‘wee room’ which is the best loo I’ve ever seen!

Take a pew next to one of their resident gargoyles and enjoy yet another magical location that the highlands has to offer.
