God’s Own Junkyard

Hands down, there is nowhere else like God’s Own Junkyard in the whole of London, actually maybe even the world! It’s a mad collection of hundreds of new and used neon signs, discarded film props, circus lighting and retro artworks, which are all crammed into a jam-packed warehouse located off the beaten track in Walthamstow.

This place has a pretty cool story behind it, as the late owner Chris Bracey, also known as the ‘Neon Man’, started out making signs for the Soho strip clubs back in the day. His talents were soon recognised and he began making props and signage for directors like Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick and Christopher Nolan.

It’s sad to think that when a film or an event comes to an end, that most of the props tend to be discarded, but God’s Own Junkyard provides them with a new lease of life, where they can shine on and be enjoyed and admired in all their former glory.

You really can spend hours wandering around this mash-up of crazy light displays in what can only be described as an illuminated utopia, plus you can even grab a bite to eat from their on-site café, The Rolling Scones!
