The Oyster Shed

You can’t make a trip to the Isle of Skye without a visit to the famed seafood shack - The Oyster Shed! This celebrated establishment is renowned amongst the locals for serving up some of the freshest seafood in the area. Oysters, lobster, scallops, prawn, crab, the menu goes on and is jam packed with delicious options. It’s certainly a notch above your regular style ‘chippie’, as it offers the highest quality fare complimented beautifully by some magnificent views across the rolling hills of Skye.

The ‘shed’ was founded by oyster fisherman Paul McClynn and first started as a pop-up until they opened their first permanent residence in their authentic down to earth digs just round the corner from the Taliskar Distillery.

Make your order in the shed, whilst viewing their other deli-style goods, before heading back outside to collect your order. Grab a seat or perch on one of their wooden barrels before you slurp down their freshly shucked oysters, crack those lobster claws and make your way through the huge pile of chips, making for a thoroughly authentic food experience.

If you have never tried oysters before I can’t think of a better place to sample them, with the oysters being harvested daily from their family run farm in Loch Harport and shucked freshly in front of you. I’d also recommend going all out and ordering the lobster!

A quick word of warning though - there are no toilets here so make a stop in the local village of Carbost before you make your way up the steep hill to discover this hidden gem!
