The Ludlow Hotel
A stay at The Ludlow had been on my bucket list ever since I first stumbled upon it while wandering around the Lower East Side years ago. The hotel channels the neighbourhood’s gritty, artistic spirit but elevates it with a layer of luxury to create the perfect blend of high‑end cool and effortless elegance.
Set on Ludlow Street, it sits in my favourite pocket of Manhattan, where the surrounding blocks are filled with boutique shops, local eateries, and independent coffee spots. Not to mention, the East Village and Nolita are both just a short stroll away.
Check‑in is like stepping into someone’s stylish downtown loft. The lobby feels more like a cosy living room, with low leather sofas, a roaring limestone fireplace, and exposed brick walls that instantly say welcome to New York. Rising above the old tenement district, the hotel spans 20 floors and features a fitness studio and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views of the skyline.
The rooms are beautifully designed, each one featuring large factory‑style casement windows, dark hardwood floors, four‑poster beds, powerful rain showers, and Moroccan brass chandeliers. The Queen and King suites even include deep marble soaking tubs framed by picture windows, a dreamy spot to take in the city from above! Whether you’re travelling solo or with company, there’s a room to suit every kind of stay. I chose the Queen Loft for this trip and was genuinely impressed by the generous space and the stunning bathroom, complete with intricate mosaic details, brass fixtures, and movie‑style lighting.
Although I didn’t have time to eat at the hotel, The Dirty French restaurant located on the ground floor offers relaxed, all‑day dining from breakfast through dinner.
Rooted in history, The Ludlow encapsulates an authentic feeling of ‘old New York’, creating the perfect residence for a memorable New York City break.
