Hamilton Pool

The hidden oasis of Hamilton Pool Preserve is located in Dripping Springs and is known across Texas for its magnificent natural swimming pool. This picturesque pool was created when an underground river collapsed beneath what is a stunning cave that curves above the water, allowing tiny waterfalls to trickle over its edge.

As you can imagine during the summer months it can get extremely busy so I would recommend visiting on a weekday if you can. We went on a Monday and nearly had the whole spot to ourselves. You will see catfish swimming in the shallower parts of the water and small fish will nibble at your toes. Unfortunately, due to falling rocks only a section of the pool is accessible to swim in, but it’s still great to take a refreshing dip!

There are also multiple hikes which you can take through the nature reserve. These provide a great opportunity to see a wide variety of wildlife and to admire the native plants species and towering trees in this forest covered canyon.

Reservations are required all year round so make sure to book via the Travis Country Parks website. The cost of the reservation online, when I visited was $12 per vehicle and then on arrival you needed to show ID and pay $8 per person at the entrance booth, which was cash only.

Please note swimming is not guaranteed due to seasonal factors that affect the pool, so make sure to check their website before visiting as this is where you will be able to check if swimming is permitted on the day you visit.
