Nieuwe Spiegelstraat

Step back in time and take a ramble down one of Amsterdam’s most mysterious and obscure streets, to find Nieuwe Spiegelstraat Boulevard. Located in the picturesque neighbourhood of Spiegelkwartier (the mirror quarter), it hosts an amazing selection of quirky antique and thrift stores, stocking all sorts of historic oddities, curios, collectables and unique pieces. In fact, the street has, over the last 30 years, become synonymous with celebrated art and antique dealers.

I thoroughly enjoyed browsing the arcane curiosity cabinets in Kramer Arts & Antiques, which has been a family-owned business for over sixty years, as well as rifling through the thrifted and unusual pieces in H.K May.

If, like me, you enjoy dark curiosities and vintage clothing, then also add a visit to Vincent Nelis Antiques to your list. Located at Roelof Hartstraat 30 H, 1071 VK, I found a wonderous hand-picked collection of medical related dark academia, including apothecary jars, preserved skulls, operating instruments, and pickled critters.

Remember that these rare collections are constantly changing, so who knows what you might discover in these little corners of curiosity, when you visit!
